About

Emilia Tsekoura is an Athens-based artist. As a motive, she uses ideas and concepts originating from her own female existence and are expressed autobiographically in an expressionistic way: Woman, the Goddess/Idol, birth or genesis, (cycladic paintings) rebirth, the beginning of the world, egg-shaped movement (eggland), her own personal or cosmic one. The notion of the constant change in life (landscape situations), nature (a natural history), and art is her main principle throughout her creations.

An element of her art is symbolism and the transformation of icons into archetypes. The egg – the sphere (spherical diary) – the round – zero or “nothing” (singing laughing zeros) and their reflections, the heart, the spiral, the geometries of nature and other known symbols and notions appear in her art, taking various forms and media.

In her deck of cards, the power of 9, Emilia shows that each life is a personal thought-creation, and thus self-awareness and self-knowledge are essential in developing the personality and shaping that life. Her creations are influenced by the theory of special relativity, the laws of quantum physics as well as eastern philosophy, and question the very nature of art in a self-referencing loop, trancending through past present and future (in a non-linear way).
